Been really ill recently with a bad Appendix, so not got much done.
I got stuck in with a few missions...
- Fitted the new window sill I took from the Beagle last week.
- Fitted new radiator (thanks Chapman!), broke my PB
- Fitted JDM manual folding mirrors.
The EDM ones are manual folding too, but I am too lazy to go out and fold them in
The past few weeks I've made up some centre caps for the Flare alloys, but for some reason two don't fit in the hole, so I modified them a bit, but they still won't, so I had to order some more. I'll get them done when they arrive next week I expect.
I've also been cleaning up some spare VT calipers I had. I'll do a 'how to' up when I get the correct seals and they are finished. The carriers are ready to be machined down, and the main caliper bodies are soaking in vinegar for a bit longer, as one is pretty rusty.
Today I finally got round to fitting the roof bars! It was a miiiiiissssssion!!! Thought I may as well as it was sunny all day, and my mum is coming home on Friday, so my dad will be busy, and wouldn't be able to help.
Firstly I had to remove the headlining, which meant taking out the four grab handles, all four seatbelts, and unclip all the surrounding trim.
Then I placed the bars where they needed to go, marked the holes, drilled them out (6 each side). As the JDM chassis has captive nuts on the underside of the roof skin, the original bolt I have weren't long enough, so I used self-tapers' on the front and rear feet, and the centre ones already have nuts inside, so I just had to feed up the bolt and screw it in from the inside.
Then screw covers on, taped up the end ones so no water could get in, then put a load of weatherproof gutter sealant round each foot, to make sure no water got in = no rust (hopefully). I'm really paranoid about it rusting, but I sprayed some Dynaz S50 inside, and put sealant round the holes I drilled, so I should be fine.
Then I put the Thule roof-bar kit on, that took literally 1 minute!
Hay-presto! 8)
I'll get the wind fairing on tomorrow, then thats pretty much all I can do now. I still need a manifold heat shield as the one I bought off a D16Y doesn't fit, but I'll get the one off the scrapped Beagle when I go there for the last time!
And I still haven't managed to get the other foglight working.. :?

battery is dead, again, so ill give it a bump off another new battery I have, and get it on some driveway ramps, and try to brush down and paint some rust. apart from that, I need a mechanic to do the rest. i have it booked in with a couple of guys not far from me (DNR), they did work on my EE9, great guys, and excellent work. the owner owns the UK's fastest front wheel drive n/a (crx B20 12.7 1/4 mile), among a list of other UK records
he will be doing the fixing, welding, spraying and MOT. it was booked in for 4 weeks ago, but im still waiting
Haven't been doing much recently as the weather is aweful, it starts to get dark around 4pm, and I don't have much to do, and I've been busy stripping a CRX. Plus my mum isn't well.
But inbetween things, I've been playing around with a CRX seat, and a spare set of seat runners I got from the Beagle. I modified the runners, to line up with the seat base, but it still needs 1" more width to reach across over all the bolt holes on the chassis. So I think I need to get the arc welder out again, and spot some small brackets onto the seat base (inside side of seat), so I can then bolt it to the runner. I can't bolt a piece of metal to the seat then the runner - as there wouldn't be enough room to do so.
The outside runner needs to stay roughly in the same position, so you stay central to the steering wheel. But it could do with going outwards by 20mm.
Here's a couple of pics, of what I've done so far...
Modified outside runner holes...
Made a makeshift cable stay for the runners' cable to get tension on...
Test fit...
You can see here they sit a bit further back and lower...
And I put some 16v CRX alloys on... and sold those Flare alloys...

Bought myself some used Tein Superstreet coilovers
One needs a re-con, which will have to be done by Tein, which will be £50-60. So not so bad.
Also bought some Goodridge braided hoses, but I think they need to be longer, as the joining points in the arches are all very rusty, and need sorting to pass the MoT. So I think HEL Integra or EG ones should be a bit longer, and they have adjustable mountings.
Are those Teins from an EK? Did you know that you'll need EG/EK/DC front forks? You'll also need to shave the steel sleeves in your rear LCAs as the width on the fork on the bottom of the shock is narrower for the EK.

Yes I'm fully aware of that mate. I have front forks already. I was hoping for JDM DC rear fitment ones, I might be able to swap with someone on the UK forums.
yeh, well thats one out of the 1.5X, but I gave those to a mate, and have a uk 16v seat now to play with. i want the ones without any writing. i did want these, but someone bought them before me :x
nice job, very nice; I wish can do some body work my self ..... keep up the good work.....
yeh i wish i could do bodywork too, but our small garage is full of my sisters crap. if we had a bigger yard or garage i would of kept it inside, stripped it completely, spray/weld and put back together. like a lot of you guys do. but room/space is non existant at the moment
You're build is an inspiration seriously very thorough man. Just wish I could get my hands on the same parts you're snatching haha.
it was purely luck, and everything came available at the right time, for the right price
im going to drive it for a few months, then store it away in a barn under cover until next winter, and then do some serious stripping of it. ( im planning to go travelling feb/march next year )
I realise I haven't updated in a while! Sorry guys.
Since my last update (November), I haven't had time to do much, as I got hit in my VT, so had to sort out those repairs, xmas, NYE, my birthday, and trying to sell all the parts I don't need, I haven't had time.
First things first, I sold those alloys I sprayed up, and the Tein coilovers. Bought myself some second hand factory EE9 suspension, just to pass the MoT, and should give it a nice drop too.
To replace the 14" Flare alloys, I bought some JDM OEM CRX 14" alloys, and refurbed them. I'm running on UK 16v CRX alloys at the moment, but I will swap tyres over to these soon.
How I received them... [/quote]
Work...
And after (two days, and £35), they came out really good! Not 100% to my perfect standards, but it will do!
Bought a few more parts:
EBC rear shoes
EBC front pads
New OEM sump gasket
EK9 throttle cable
EF2 heater controls
New throttle cable fitted, with a custom bracket I had to make up...
And swapped cam covers... 8)
Bought some more fogs, but they were shit, found the coolant system to be over pressurized, so I need another radiator (third one now!). So I was feeling down, and bought myself some very good condition EF6 Stanley foglights. They are still to arrive, but should look dope!!
That's all for now.
Planned to be picked up next weekend to have welding/painting, service, suspension/brake overhaul etc etc, MOT then im sorted!!

Mine aren't that were on the RT. The JDM ones are designed different internally to fold.

yep... 14x6 Flare jdm alloys
just making some centre caps for them at the moment, and they need new tyres
huh? the visors off the Beagle? no, they were all broken and snapped
im having second thoughts on these rims. im tempted by some BMW bottle caps.
