2WD to 4WD Conversion.......

I found a wagon at the local salvage yard here this morning. It has most of the 4wd parts on it still. I am venturing back out first thing in the morning to pull everything. Is there any big issue with converting a 2wd to 4wd? I did a search, but nothing really significant came up. I figured it would be a mostly bolt-in deal. I will be pulling the trans, drive-line, and complete rear-end out of the other car. Also, can I bolt the trans to my original d15? The motor in the car has been messed with. So I am not going to pull it. What else do I need to know? Thanks guys.

As Shenrie found out, not all D series blocks are set up to take the intermediate shaft from the RT4WD transmission. Also, the bolt in points in the rear of the 2WD chassis for the front of the rear diff are not there, so you need to either take a portion of the floor from the RT4WD and "graft" it into the 2WD, or put some longer bolts through the floor into some sort of reinforcement plate to take the load. Don't forget to get the rear subframe from the RT4WD as it has the mounting points for the back of the rear diff. Also is the mounting point for the passenger side motor/tranny mount in the engine compartment. You'll need to relocate it slightly to take the RT4WD tranny mount. The RT4WD one's bolt hole is about 1 1/2" higher. RT4WD tranny also uses shifter cables rather than shifter rods, so make sure you get those too.

Gas tank is the same. I have one from a 4WD here, and it's identical to the one on my 2WD. You're right about the oil pan though.
