Old ones were crusting and falling apart

- pioneer bluetooth stereo

- fix the rear latch so the hatch closes easier

- 2 Bucket, Iron X, Clay Bar, Upholstery cleaning, Ceramic coat white, ceramic coat black trim

- undercoated from underworld coatings

First time poster, long time lurker/learner. You guys helped me keep my AWD to stay AWD. Unfortunately my 1990 wagon unibody has rusted too much to pass inspection and has been parked for a while. My better half suggests that it is time for it to go to a new home. Many good parts to keep others alive, will post in marketplace. I'm open to any suggestions on how else to find people interested in it.

Thanks, Fred

Hey, been reading up on here and decided to join! Growing up my first car was a 91 CRX Si which started my love for the EF era of Hondas. 15 Years later and I picked up this really nice 91 Honda Wagon. It has a newly built D15Z1 for really good gas mileage. As of now I have fully detailed her and will be repainting all of the trim and touching up the rock chips and 30 yr old paint this weekend and next.

Future plans are Rear Sway Bar, Yakima fairing, paint trim, Maybe coilovers eventually but I don't mind the ride height for now.

Will be asking in suspension but also here if there is a link, I couldn't find enough info but what do I all need to install the Suspension Techniques ST Rear Sway Bar 51140? and is it worth it for a daily driver?

Anyway happy to show you guys the progress and this awesome wagon, they are so fun to drive.

Recently picked up an 87 RT4WD civic with two blown engines, and don't want to mess with that late model carbureted stuff, so.... I'm going to be sticking a 1.1L 3 cylinder kubota turbo diesel in it instead. Weight matches almost exactly to the original engine, its slightly smaller. With the turbo and some fuel adjustments I should be making a blazing 80-ish horsepower. Working on an adapter plate and oil pan modifications to fit around the civic transmission. Best guess is it should get somewhere in the range of 60-70 mpg, but that remains to be seen. Found a guy who did a 0.7L kubota swap in a geo metro and got 90+ mpg, and another who did a 2.2L kubota swap in a ford ranger and gets 40-45 mpg. Really doing this for the fuel economy and the weird factor rather than any sort of performance, because... it won't have any performance. Slow and steady. But diesel torque with that crawler gear should be unstoppable.

Project hit a slight hiccup when someone wandered by my shop and smashed three of the windows out of the car for the lulz. Having a hell of a time tracking down replacements. Any tips?

Cheers!

Hi everybody. My mother-in-law recently decided she shouldn't drive any longer and so she gave me her 89 Wagovan, which I have always adored. I've driven it for a couple of years now but I don't have the enthusiasm or time to do anything with it. I'm hoping that I can sell it to an enthusiast who will show it the love and respect it deserves.

I'll post a bunch of photos in the marketplace soon. It's got just 66K miles on the odometer. All original (except the rear hatch struts, they're new). Paint's not great because it's never been garaged, but it's 99.44% rust-free (never been north of Georgia). It's got a few dimples and divots, and the AC hasn't worked since Bill Clinton was president, but the motor is strong and the car has been dependable for daily transportation for two years.

I have a lovely 91 Wagon - 350k miles. Original owner!! But she needs a new fuel tank. The one I have is rusty and leaking. The rub? She's a manual!! I cannot find a fuel tank for a 91 manual for love or money. I really don't want it to end this way. If anyone has a line or advice, I am all ears. (BTW - a tank for an automatic is easy to find - it's the manual that is impossible.) Here's a photo of Brownie to tug on your heartstrings. I'm in NJ if it matters. People knock on my door a couple of times a year asking if she's for sale. Thanks for reading!

Life long Honda driver, first time Honda project builder. Found an 89' Wagon about 6 hours away for $1,500 with "wristpin noise". Since I didn't care about the OG engine I took the plunge and got it for $1,000. Messaged back and forth with the owner and he was 95% certain I could make the 6 hour drive back home... as the title shows I'm the 5%. The 20 minutes I drove it took me back to my first 84' Accord sedan and I loved it. Now it's home sitting in the garage while I get books and online info on where to go next. I purchased it for an eventual daily and leaning to a B20b and keeping it as an automatic, but I have so much to learn that could all change. If anyone knows of places to get true replacement hood, front bumper cover, and interior parts (carpets, door panels, etc.) I'd much appreciate it as I'm in definite need down the line.

Hello everyone,

I just picked up a '91 RT4WD. One owner, 86k original miles, manual. Pretty clean aside from a small tear in the drivers seat and a little rust around the wheel wells. Overall a very well cared for car. It even had the original window sticker among the 29 years of service records.

This is my first wagon, although I have owned an '86 hatch and currently own a '98 CRV.

Thanks

Finally got my first wagon! I know absolutely nothing about the Ef series Honda’s so this will be a new learning curve for me although I’ve owned a 2005 rsx type s and later on a 2000 Em1 Si so hopefully going back a few generations won’t be too difficult.

1991 Manual 5 speed Fwd 138k original miles, 2 owners! Original d15 motor. Everything works and shifts like butter. Only thing it needs is a clutch pedal adjustment, alignment, new wiper blades and possibly some gasket work to the original engine and other basic tune ups. Enjoy the pics. Not sure if I want to do a mild build or keep it all stock...

Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona!

As the title suggests, I am starting to build a rally cross "monster mini" utilizing a d16z6 from a Del Sol Si, a JRSC, and a 4wd drivetrain from a civic wagon (the main reason for me joining the forum), and riding on modified polaris rzr suspension.

I have already built a d16z6 JRSC mini cooper, but the car had sentimental value to me so I restored it back to original. I then bought a beater mini shell (one that i dont mind hacking up). I have since rebuilt the d16z6 and the JRSC blower and have all of the conversion parts boxed up awaiting their new home.

I need to determine what I will need to carry out the 4wd conversion. Ive found that miata rear trailing arms can be fitted with some slight modification, i will have custom axles made and I will have to modify the tunnel and rear trunk floor to fit the diff and driveshaft.

I look forward to hearing some feedback and Ill try my best to keep you all updated on the progress ?

Hi everyone!

My name is Nima and I’ve gotten good use of your forum since the beginning of this week. I own a wagon myself since mid-December’19, which is a daily driver and nothing more. I’m a bit late to the wagon-party, but I hope others are still passionate about these quirky cars. I’m already having fun driving it and it had fulfilled it’s purpose well so far. More than anything, I’ve never experienced such body roll in the corners before. IOW, it has already charmed me.

I’ve got the 1986 4x4 Shuttle (not RT) with the 1.5l carbureted Engine. My wagon has seen better better days, but it's still a decent ride. The picture is taken from the best angle... Of course, it has its share of battle-scars like most other Wagons. But what’s not to love about an ugly duckling like this? 3rd gen gang!

Names Steven. Just joined this site. Picked up a 1991 Honda Civic RT4WD automatic a couple months ago. Still learning what fits and what does not fit. This thing is a lot different then all the other Honda’s. Kinda sucks the rear part of the wagons have to be wagon specific. Oh well, that’s why I’m here. Anyways here’s a pics of the day I picked it up till now as of dec 11th 2019

Hello: My name is Gary. I live in Ventura, Ca 93003.

I have been a member on this website for a number of year's, but I have not, I do not think, made any introduction's.

I have had three Civic Wagon's. One was an 1988, a 1990 and currently I have a 1989. I don't have any photo's of any of them, but I will try to get some picture's and put up what I have, at this time.

My first Wagon was the 1988. It was a "rust bucket" that I purchased from a seller in Southern California, who had managed to SNAP a Spark Plug Off, Right at the thread's going into the Head. He had tried to get it out, but had been unsuccessful at getting it removed. I bought it and then rented a trailer to bring it back to my home, in Ventura. I had been looking for one, for a while, because I had purchased several Civic's for some of my Children to drive, while they were going to College.

I bought a used 1985 Honda Civic Hatchback for my oldest daughter, when she left to finish going to College. I could not afford much, but I purchased this car for $1500.00. It initially ran fine, but started mis-behaving and after looking at the Carb complexity, I took it to a mechanic who only worked on Honda's. At the time I did not realize that they had basically used a specially shaped o-ring for the base of the Carb and that over time it would get dried out, warped or whatever and under some condition's it would allow extra air into the intake.

After it was fixed and I had checked everything she could, she took it to College, which was about 700 mile's away. I was a reasonably high level of uncomfortablness, because of the number of miles on the car combined with the distance that she would be driving. BUT, it was fine and it was extremly amazing to me, because it hardly uses any oil. She drove it for the first year of College and then came back to Ventura, for the Summer.

I had tried to teach her to check her oil, every time she bought gas, but between the mileage it got, which was about 27 or 28 mpg and the low amount of oil that it used, I think she mostly started doing the "I'll check it next time I get gas". When she came home, I don't know if she changed or had the oil changed, before she came back to Ventura, but I believe she had at least checked it to make sure it was full.

After she came home, she had a sister who was getting married at the latter part of August and she was going to be the bridesmaid. Additionally, the next day, after her sister's wedding she had to leave to go back to school. I did not check her oil, because I had told her that, that was something that she needed to do, for herself.

So, she left the next day to go back to school, in Provo, Utah. She was driving back and about 10 miles from Mesquite, Nevada, her car STOPPED RUNNING. She had a very thoughtful man who stopped to see if she needed some help, and so she told him what had happened. He happened to have a Truck and a Nylon Tow Strap, so he offered to tow her to Mesquite. When she got to Mesquite, he took her to a/THE Gas Station. I think there might have been two or three, but not much more.

She called, in Tear's, because she didn't know what had happened or why it would not run AND she HAD to be at School, the next day, to be able to KEEP the classes she had that were starting. So, I told her to go across the street to a Casino and get a room and try to sleep as much as she could and I would collect my tool's and drive my pickup to Mesquite to see if we could do something to fix her car and if we couldn't, we could take the Pickup and drive to Provo, so she could start school, the next day.

When I got to Mesquite, and I opened the hood, it took about 2 second's to see that I was NOT going to be able to fix the car, there. It turned out she had NEVER checked the Oil level, AFTER she had left Provo, four month's earlier. While the engine still had 3 quart's of oil, the camshaft front bearing had gotten starved of oil and got hot enough that the camshaft drive had just sheared completely off of the camshaft. It never over heated and she said no light's ever came on, until the engine just quit.

I was TOTALLY amazed that she had been able to even drive it as far and as long as she had, with the oil being at very low level's and very dirty.

Anyway, although she had the camshaft shear off, after I got the car back to Ventura and started trying to figure out how badly damaged it was and what I might need to do, to either fix it or just call it a TOTAL LOSS and find some alternative. To my complete amazement, so far as I could tell, the front bushing, which is really a forged part of the whole head, was the ONLY thing that was substantially damaged. The Crank bearing's were a little looser, but no more than I would have expected with the number of mile's on the motor. But, the bearing surface's were not scored or scratched at all.

That was about 1999, I believe.

Anyway, THAT was my "introduction" to Honda car's.

I will probably try to share some more thing's, later.

Currently, I have a 1989 Honda Civic Wagon that is mostly Rust Free. My domestic circumstane's have dictated that I get RID of the car, so I am going to post a listing for the car, on this website, for a couple of week's, before I try to do anything more, to free myself from the "challenge's" that I am now having about it.

I'll fill in more detail, in the listing but basically the Motor, Drive Train, Brakes, Shock's and Mechanical have ALL been completely rebuilt, with a NEW CLUTCH and I was driving it for about 9 month's but I got an exhaust leak that turned into a exhaust replacement that I have not been able to finish. I would prefer to sell the car to someone who has an interest in this Model, so that someone can get the benefit of a solid engine and mechanical's and make use of a largely sound body and frame, instead of just having it just go to the Junk Yard.

So, that's the "short" story.
