Suspension, lowering the wagon.

yes yes yes.. i kno i kno. there is a perfect thread about this. im jus retarded and needa make sure im understand thing.

ok so use DA springs. and EF front shocks. now for the rear; you use EF OEM stock shocks? is that right?

i rather not use OEM shocks if im doing aftermarket suspension.
especially if i plan on dunkin it to the ground.

my perfect suspension would be koni yellows with skunk2. so do i have the rear oem shocks thing right?

at least you searched first. but it'd be beter if you posted in the same thread....on to your question

use EF shocks. if you wanna raise the wagon, use DA springs. to have the DA springs lower the wagon, you'd have to cut off 2 dead coils, which isnt such a smart idea. even for the rear, use EF shocks. i've got skunk2 coilovers, so i guess EF springs would be just fine. the only reason why DA springs were brought up was because of the weight concern, since the wagon springs were meant for a heavier car, the EF springs wouldnt do, therefore DA, which was found out to be heavier than a wagon, springs were suggested to counteract this. cutting the dead springs would solve the 'ass-in-the-air' problem, since the DA springs are tall. but since you're lowering, EF springs will do.
  • dude u got me even more confused. when u say EF shocks, are u talkin about OEM or aftermarket.

check it out. can i jus do this.
    buy these
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GROUND-C ... enameZWD1V

    and these

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Koni-Yel ... enameZWDVW
and call it day, with a perfect, equal suspension height?
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
sorry! didnt mean to confuse. i meant aftermarket. because afterall, why would you use stock shocks when you want to lower the car?

are you planning to autoX the wagon? im just curious because you're spending so much on GC coilovers.
  • jus as a daily driver. i want it to be comfortable and possible. i dont want it bumpy. but i also wana slam it!!

that set up i showed you.. are those shocks and spring the ones i wouuld be able to get and would work?

i wouuld like to get skunk2 coilovers but what struts would i be able to use? what company
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
i've got skunk2 with Tokico Illuminas. entire setup cost me $400. and i can slam it up to 4 inches i believe. but im only riding 1.5" lower than stock. you could use Tokico blues, KYB AGX or KYB GR-2. those are all good ones to use if its just street. the Illuminas and AGX and the Koni yellows are fully adjustable, while the GR-2 and blues are not.

that set up will work, but in my opinion, save your money and buy something cheaper. those groundcontrol are GREAT for track use, but if you arent, then save the money. just my two cents.
  • ok my plan is to go with ur set up.. right now i got skunk2/tockio on my 94 teg and i love it. but theyr only springs.

whered you buy your set up?

and to get things right? i buy the skunk2 coilovers and tockio shocks for the EF application right?
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
the illuminas i got on eBay. skunk2 i got from a friend. he lived in California and got a sick deal for $140.

yes, for the 88-91 civic/crx. if you have an 88, buy shocks for an 88. the coilovers are actually labeled on the box as '88-'00. so yeah....
  • and definatly dont forget aout getting a camber kit for both the front and rear.
  • ok i think i got this right.

    since i got a 89, buy these:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOKICO-I ... 3246QQrdZ1

    and these:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SKUNK2-A ... 9194QQrdZ1

these are exactly what i can get right?

btw: i know someone busted their ass to write that suspension write up, but i still see people asking about suspension all the time. someone should rewrite it so retards like me can fully understand
  • ding ding ding ding!!!
    we have a weener!
  • yaay!!
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
that's it! get those and you're set

well if we re-wrote it so that everyone understood it, then why would you need us then? lol nah jk it's like a small familiy here, we're here to answer questions if you got em
  • you kno what? all that DA spring shit really confused me. instead of having that thread. why dont you jus say that.
USE EF SHOCKS AND SPRINGS. nuff said.

lol thats all it takes right?

im about the join the family. ill have a wagon by next week. and hells gona break loose! ill keep ya updated. thanks for the tips
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
well the DA springs were only mentioned because of the weight issue. but since you're planning on slamming the wagon, EF springs work just fine
  • anticonanticon Band Wagon
forget all that just hit up "preston" on honda-tech tell him ash sent you. He will hook you up and for the same price you pay for skunk 2 crap you can get a fully adjustable coilover setup. Trust me there is a total difference in quality and setup. I had skunk2's on my hatch when I first bought it. I later put the function form full coilover setup on my hatch and it was a night and day difference. I figure, if your going to spend the money then get the right thing. Hit him up he is a really cool guy and is always down to hook up a fellow EE EF owner.

I have ridden in many different cars with all types of setups and the function form didnt bounch all over and had more adjustability then any other setups.
  • are u talkin bot these? keep in mind i plan on slammin the wagon.

    http://www.hondacivicwagon.com/board/vi ... php?t=1585
  • ok im getting the wagon tomorrow so i need to start shopping. right now i guess im gona go with the skunk2/tockio ill.

what if i go this route?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SKUNK2-S ... dZViewItem

    its cheaper.
should i go this route? remember im gona be dunkin it!
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
i wouldnt. why spend so much when you're ust gonna slam it? youre not using it for track events. coilovers arent for height adjustment....they're for adjusting corner weights, mainly to highten your performance in the corners n such. dont spend $650 on a setup that you arent going to use to its full potential
  • ok tell me.

i want my ride to not my bumpy.. bumpy as in cut springs/ebay coilovers type of bumpy.

and i wana slam it. what suspension set up should i go with?

earlier we said skunk2/tockio would be good. but the skunk2 coilovers full kit is cheaper. again.. i want to slam but not be bumpy.
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
go with a cheaper set up.

KYB AGX are $275 or so....compared to Illuminas for $370. you get the fully adjustables for rebound and compression damping.

or go with non-adjustables. KYB GR-2 or Tokico HP. wayyy cheaper but you dont get any adjustments.

it really comes down to what you want on the wagon. if you think the full skunk2 set up with suit you, then by all means go for it. but if the wagon isnt going to see any track time, and youre gonna slam it anyway, its not really worth it IMO. what you want on your wagon, you put on your wagon.

There are so many different types of set-ups/combinations you could run with SHOCKS/SPRING/Coilovers....But the way i look at it, If your going to spend $300-400 on all for shocks then another $200-400 for Coil-vers or springs. You might as well went out and bought a complete coilover system such as TEIN/D2/KSPort/KW/APEX'i/OMNI blah blah blah...Im riding on TEIN CS Coilovers w/ EDFC in my Lexus and damn is all i can say. Rides like a Cadillac and its OH SO SMOOTH....Tein Super street are pretty nice, i have alot of buddies running them and i think there going for $650-750. I would be sure to get a coilover with a Dampening system though to change the comfort level :) ....

    Alan
  • ok i guess the big question is.

what suspension set up is the best bang for the buck for me.

i think im going with agx right now what coilovers.

btw i was coilovers not springs
  • SLeePERSLeePER New Wagonist
How much are you willing to spend is the question of the day!
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
yes...money is always an issue. whats your budget?
  • if you don't want it to be bumpy, you'll want a full coilover, or modify your strut mounting locations, to allow the strut travel to be adjusted to your ride height.

because with a coil-over sleeve and even lowering springs, it makes the strut use only a fracton of its travel. so if you modify the strut mount, making the strut be able to go through its full movement you will gain some ride quality back.

also a taller sidewall (tire) will make the car less bumpy.
  • TIMELESSWHITETIMELESSWHITE Senior Wagonist
if you got the extra funds, the GC/Koni setup will fullfill your requirements. The adjustability with this application will allow you to slam it and maintain comfort, ( No Bumpie ) nice and smooth!
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
ground control's are more performance-wise struts. if its just a daily driver not seeing any track time, there's no point in dishing out that money.
  • TIMELESSWHITETIMELESSWHITE Senior Wagonist
just imagine some areas of the streetz being track like! :D
  • sic944tsic944t Wagonist
i just put k sports on my crx 560 bucks and i must say suspension is worth the money dont go cheap you cant win in a daily driver
