DIY Cargo Cover(UPDATED)

Update in POST 13 :)

I made a pretty back woods contraption for a temporary cargo cover today.

Cost: $1-10 depending on materials you need to buy
Items needed:

Large piece of cardboard.
Clips to support the cardboard.
A brain
Spray adhesive
Material

So it was pretty simple, and I am really just using this piece I fabbed up today as a templet when I can get some better material to make a real cargo cover out of.

I just took measurements, and went to town cutting.

Here is what I ended up with :) Keep in mind I will be redoing this in the future with better material.

I also re did my headliner today!

I saw a kind of cargo cover bu it looks like a plastic cover not just made of leather material. I do not know how to upload picture, so I just put eBay link where I saw the cover. One of pictures shows the cargo cover. Is it DIY or Stock cover?

Material: I don't know what it's called, but there's some signboard stuff that's rigid, light, and 1/4" thick. It's made sort of like corrugated cardboard, but plastic with an aluminum skin on one side. It's probably spendy unless you can find some scrap, though.

That is the OEM cover that only comes with the EMD rear cargo interior
  • Went to the junk yard today. I measured a privacy cover for a 1990 Ford Explorer and it measured almost exactly the same length as our wagons. I removed all the pieces and here is the finished product.

It fits very well, there is a gap about an inch and a half on either side of the cargo cover, but I am very satisfied.

    Perfection!!
  • I notice the Blazer cover has a hook on the hatch itself. Do you have to unhook it from the inside when you open the hatch, or does the cover unroll far enough to open with the hatch?
  • The hook on the hatch was temporary until I found suitable side holders. Therefore you would have to unlatch it before opening the hatch. With the side holders now i can have it on even with the hatch open...

Wow, I think I still have the cargo cover from a '91 Explorer. It's even the right color! I hope the '90 and the '91 are the same. I'm going to try it out (when I find it) and I'll post pics if it works.
  • SiWagonSiWagon Council Member
    I think it's '90-'95 so you're in luck.

Any idea what else could be used for mounts? My Explorer is long gone.
